Do you want to know about the creative process of the most recent series Miriannys Montes de Oca's Bearable weights of humans? Exclusively for you, we share some of the words of the artist, as well as the snapshots taken during the stage production of each work in the series. I approach the theater in its codes of representation, but it is the man who interests me, his anguish, his faith, his happiness, his life. In this sense, the only thing that could allude to a contextual work is the title and the way in which the image is assumed. I believe that human behavior has a great theatrical component. I work with the neighbor, the family, the friends, who already contain a strong and real history of theatrical lives. The painting still has a mystery that we can not unveil. It is ...

Infinity is contained in an image. Miriannys. The painting expands and conquers other means from its customary vanity towards the dialogue with relatives close to the representation. It engulfs them, incorporates them, according to the need of the creator to make the real unreal. Miriannys Montes de Oca, sets the scene of his paintings, dresses his characters, announces events or situations appealing to the theater where characters will sometimes coincide with their attire, in others, ghostly, surrounded in an environment that depends on the tension caused by the gesture, the background environment or the postures they adopt. The actors in these scenarios resemble caricatures, whose faces are delineated on some features that give it expressiveness, reinforced by the title of the wo...

The Havana Biennial has been one of the most significant cultural events in the history of Cuba. For more than three decades it has brought together the best of the visual arts of the island and the world. After the creation in 1983 of the Wifredo Lam Center of Contemporary Art, his management team undertook the mission to convene every two years to the most outstanding visual artists from different regions, with particular emphasis on third world countries in Latin America, Asia and Africa. The First Biennial of Havana took place in May-June 1984. It was attended by about 820 artists with over 1900 works. Several recognitions and awards were given as the great prize to Arnold Belkin of Mexico. A well selected team of curators is responsible for selecting the works that will participat...

Crítica especializadaWARNING!!!!! A doctor named Caligari i son the loose at ISA. One of the most overwhelming currents of all film history was, without doubt, the German Expressionist movement. It is impossible for me not to be overwhelmed with the sets of Fritz Lang's Metropolis. I am immeasurably afraid of the oblique fireplaces, huge cardboard chairs and phantasmagoric prints of the protagonists of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. In addition, this stunning visual fabric these are films that denounce loudly the consequences of a "perverse modernity" that has a hidden face the deep existential angst and automation of the subject based on the hysterical race for progress. I cannot see the works of Miriannys Montes de Oca without thinking of the German movement. Her pieces, her best pi...

Marketing and Cuban artists

marketing-money-art

I am paying a debt to myself as I write these lines. It turns out that some time ago, motivated by one of my business raptures, I founded a company specializing in online marketing services and I named it Seoencuba. It may seem weird if I say that one of my first jobs was the plastic arts because online marketing and painting are exciting professions but 180 degrees in opposite directions. How can an artist become a specialist in Online Marketing? As it turns out I didn’t do very well as an artist. I did not consider myself with little talent, I got quickly and with only elementary education to tame the craft of painting and I still feel very proud of a couple of paintings I made. But the truth, the truth: I was horrible from the economic point of view. I called it underground art....
